Love v/s Infatuation

When you know and understand someone, and are drawn to them, and fear that if not for them, life would become less worthy of living, it is LOVE.

When you want someone to be the person you could be drawn to, and wish that by their entering your life, your life would become more worthy of living, it is INFATUATION.

Difference is subtle, but not very difficult to make out for those who understand themselves well.

The most exciting, yet fulfilling phase of a relationship is when it is part love, and part, infatuation.

And no, it need not be definitely with someone of the opposite gender. :)

Thanks and welcome to the blog!

Hope, my posts do not follow the law of conservation of mass, energy and food when you snack upon them. ;)

@ Quirky Indian:

Thanks and welcome! Would've loved to know your take on the differences. :)

Going by the way you have defined them, infatuation seems to reek of a certain acquisitiveness, a wanting to possess. Your definition of love, on the other hand, does not require it to be reciprocated.

Enough thinking for today!

I was confused if you were [are] straight or not. But now I'm convinced you are [not]. Awwww so Ketan has fallen in love! :P That too with a member of the same gender! How modern is that! Cho chweeet! Lol Congratulations Ketan! Who's the lucky gay oops sorry I mean guy! :)

Cheers,
Vishwas

@ Quirky Indian:

Yes, you gathered the aspirational value ("acquisitiveness") attached to the object of infatuation, as put by me, very correctly.

I couldn't understand when you talked of reciprocation, you were refering to reciprocation by one being loved or one harboring love. I guess, you meant reciprocation by one being loved. In that case, since I've talked of fear of 'losing' love/object of love ("if not for them"), it was implicit that one's love (as defined here) is being reciprocated. But of course, I could not make it more explicit for catering to one of the goals of brevity. :)

One more idea I have not touched upon is exclusivity. The definition sounds like one can love innumerable people. But well, I don't actually think that. :)

Actually through this post, I was not trying to define love as much as trying to contrast it with infatuation. And according to me, the most stark difference is one loves when one knows and understands a person, their core values, attributes, desires, etc., whereas, in infatuation one merely projects certain desirable quality onto another person without knowing them sufficiently well (e.g., celebrities).

Another aspect I've not touched upon is the time-frame. If felt merely for an hour or only some time after an interaction ends, is it love or infatuation?

Plus not to forget, all human emotions come with their own degrees and intensities. :)

Yes, enough thinking and typing for today. :)

Thanks! TC.

@ Vishwas:

You're semi-correct. ;) I'm more modern than you think. I'm bisexual.

You're so worldly-unwise when it comes to understanding innuendo! That lucky gay oops sorry I mean guy, is YOU!

Now don't look here and there. I mean YOU, Vishwas V. Reddy!

Anyway, before you decide to run away from my blog forever, let me extend my warmest welcome by giving you a warm, tight gay-hug! :P

I've seen so many bloggers hug and kiss each other. Could never understand the point. So well, thought let me try it on you to see if I get an orgasm. Well, kissing will have to wait for some time. ;)

Take care.

Ketan,

I'm the king of innuendoes. Trust me. Sometimes I hate myself for it. And I don't mean to brag about it! And I'm not at all worldly-unwise! :P And besides yes, I wish I were actually gay. Then I'd surely have a man-crush on you. Now I only love pretending to act gay because that pisses people off and then I can enlighten them that gay is cool and I can spread awareness that even gay people are humans after all. :P

Ok are you hinting that I run away from your blog forever? :( Do I smell pure hatred? :( Sure I'd love your tight gay-hug! :) I've mastered that too back when I was in my undergrad. I'd return your tight gay-hug with a tightest gayest-hug you'd ever experience. These people came out of the closet only recently. I was open about it eons ago. I'm not a homophobe. I support the gay. I'm not at all threatened. :P Lol

Were those bloggers of the same gender? :P Sure you can try but it won't get an orgasm. I've been there done that. Well I'm hoping I'll fly back to India in February. So we can meet up somewhere and you are welcome to kiss me to your heart's content! :P

Cheers sweetheart [!]

True! True!

But...if these are the conclusions you have drawn, you must be pretty sure of them right?

Then why is the blog called Confusions? :S

@ Vishwas:

Thanks dear!

What are you doing on 14th Feb? I'd be giving an entrance exam! :(

Yes, those bloggers were all females. Anyway, being a male bisexual, I find lesbians hotter than gays. ;)

You will definitely like this article on innuendo on Uncyclopedia. It is as subtle as your comment above! :P

TC.

@ Srishti:

Thanks and welcome to the blog!

It is confLusions and not confusions!!

Please read the blog's description in the header! :P

Purey pun ka satyanash kar diya!!!! :(

Ketan,

Lol 'Dear'! Lol

Oh I'm hoping I'll have a date on 14th of Feb! Lol For once! :P I mean a member from the opposite gender that is! Awwww poor you! How sad! Its ok there is always March 14th, April 14th, May 14th etc! :)

Oh wow! We are of the same frequency! :) I too dig lesbians! They are so freaking awesome and sometimes makes me wish I was born a female so that I could be a lesbian! Lol

And thank god I can breath normally now that I feel you are not offended by my comment! :)

Cheers,
Vishwas

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed reply...was really tied up for the past three days.

I have experienced both the phases, and both of them have their own thrills. And perils. But what would life be,without these ups and downs?

And btw, I loved the last line.If only more people could be as open minded...

Cheers, and keep up the good work,

Me.

Mishree,

Thanks and welcome to the blog!

Yes, incidentally my latest post was centered on the similar ups and downs in life you have talked of.

But most important, I hope you could relate this blog-post with your post, in context of which I had referred you here. :)

Take care.
